And another trash picking Sunday....

A nice still life that I can't resist posting:

Looks like the flowers to the right never made it to the recipient and somebody had to drown their sorrow in a horrible choice of alcohol. So the flowers were an exception but what you see here is typical for what we find. A lot of empty alcohol cans and bottles out there. Our guess is, that the ratio alcohol to non-alcoholic beverages is probably 50:50. And that's a lot for something you are not supposed to do. Anyway - here are our findings (there was another bag that I forgot to take a picture of) and a big THANK YOU to that anonymous person that discharged two of our bags before we could come and get them! It's nice to know that we have helpers out there :-)

February Update

The second Sunday in February was freezing cold. We went out there with ski gloves and insulated pants, but it was too cold to take any pictures. So here's the result sitting in our warm garage.

The following Sunday was very wet. It rained so much that we actually stayed home. But February 28 was the day to go! A perfect sunny day!

We only made it half way to the end of Old Ballard Road, because we got sidetracked by the little creek on the left hand side. There was a spot that annoyed us for weeks where a lot of old tree trunks and branches got caught on a big tree. All the debris got stuck there and the fertilizers in the water ended up in this ugly carpet of foam. We stopped and removed all trunks and sticks so that the water could flow without any gunk sitting on top. This took an hour. Here is the little creek foam free:

We turned around and went back home, but stopped at the lower wetlands on the left hand side and cleared them out.  All in all our collection was quite impressive again:

There is a lot more our there...

The melted snow pressed down all the vegetation and we found a lot more trash than we've been prepared for. We filled all our plastic bags and found even more. All in all we filled three construction bags! We also met John, a Professor for immunology, and had a nice talk with him. Here are our results:

Winter trash

Old Ballard Road presented itself in the best light.

We could only pick what was was on top of the snow or clearly visible.

We found a really old plastic bottle in the creek. Getting it out was physically a little bit demanding.

In the end we ended up with a nicely filled plastic bag.

No trash picking due to snow

Old Ballard Road looks beautiful. But we can't see any trash due to lovely snow.

Trash picking in the snow

What a cold Sunday. Light snow, it looked very pretty. We went early, 9:00 AM. The walk to Broomley Bridge and back usually takes about 2 hours and 14 minutes, but with our new grabbers it takes about 3 hours now. Our harvest was pretty good - we filled up 5 bags with trash! And we seem to have an anonymous helper: One bag was already taken away before I could document it! We left it around Martins Farm Road, who ever took it - thank you!

We thought we found it all...

...but we found even more! I have to admit - the trash grabbers Santa Claus brought us for Christmas increased the fun. We were able to fill a contractors bag. Forgot to take my phone with me, so here is the final load (notice old beer running out of the bottom of the bag - yuck!)
